Natural Gas: Buzzi Unicem USA’s Choice for Sustainability
Buzzi Unicem USA is strengthening its commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions by converting its cement plants from coal and petcoke to natural gas and low-emission fuels. The initiative requires specialized burner design and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring safe and efficient operations across all plants under the supervision of Buzzi corporate management.
The plants in Alamo, Festus, Maryneal, and Pryor have already completed the conversion, while Cape Girardeau and Greencastle will commission their new burners during the 2026 winter shutdown. The Chattanooga project is in the design phase, with completion expected in 2027. Thanks to team expertise and interregional collaboration, several plants are already operating with natural gas systems, demonstrating how technical innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand on the path to Net Zero.
