A Benefit for People and the Environment

Through the national GiBBS project, Dyckerhoff demonstrates how the construction materials industry can actively support biodiversity. The Lengerich, Göllheim, and Deuna sites have participated, implementing new operational approaches to quarry management and protection of plant and animal species.

Promoted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and supported by scientific institutes and NABU (German Nature Conservation Association), the project also involved citizens and employees through Citizen Science activities. Over 450 species of plants, birds, butterflies, and dragonflies were recorded, creating a data foundation for targeted conservation programs, habitat protection, and sustainable quarry management.

Through systematic monitoring and collaboration between science, citizens, and company teams, Dyckerhoff integrates environmental protection into its operational culture. GiBBS confirms that sustainable production and biodiversity conservation can go hand in hand, setting a model for responsible management of extraction sites.
