Building the future together: Buzzi Unicem and the Leardi Institute conclude three years of excellence in training
Not just an educational program, but a genuine bridge built between the classroom and the industry of the future. The recent field activity marked the conclusion of the ambitious three-year Stakeholder Engagement project sponsored by Buzzi Unicem in partnership with IIS Leardi.
Launched in October 2023, the initiative took students from the CAT (Construction, Environment, and Territory) program on an immersive journey into the world of cement and concrete, featuring technical workshops on sustainability and a focus on workplace safety, led by Buzzi staff.
At the heart of the project was direct contact with the production facility. Following the visits to Robilante (Cuneo) in previous years, the most recent visit to Vernasca (Piacenza) also enabled the students to experience the entire product life cycle firsthand.
The company states: “Opening the doors of our plants is not just about showing how we produce cement; it’s about sharing a vision. We help young people understand a contemporary industry, a hub of technological innovation and environmental responsibility. Investing in their education means nurturing the professionals who will lead change in the construction industry—and in other fields as well tomorrow.”
Indeed, the project’s ambition went beyond the mere transfer of technical skills, aiming instead to provide a multidisciplinary “toolkit” for tackling the complexities of the contemporary world.
With this in mind, the program included sessions focused on the responsible use of social media, to educate the students on managing their digital identity and communicating responsibly, as well as an original in-depth exploration of the musical model in collaboration with the “Le Muse” Academy. The encounter with the up-and-coming jazz musician Mattia Basilico provided an opportunity to explore cross-disciplinary skills such as structured improvisation, listening, and team synchronicity: a choice that underscores the desire to train not only skilled technicians, but also conscious citizens with minds open to new forms of expression.
Comment from the Headteacher, Nicoletta Berrone: “Providing our students with the opportunity to interact with a global player like Buzzi Unicem enables them to gain invaluable professional awareness. We thank the company for believing in the potential of our students and for transforming the local area into an open-air laboratory.”
The enthusiasm shown by the participants confirms the effectiveness of an educational model based on practical experience. Buzzi Unicem and the Leardi Institute are now looking to the future, confident that the experience gained over these three years has made a profound impact on the personal and professional development of the future surveyors and technicians of the Monferrato area.
